Abuse Counselling

Abuse counselling, dealing with the traumatic effects that abuse brings, is an important part of my work. I am a specialist in the abuse/trauma area with years of post-graduate training in it. I offer abuse counselling in person in Tralee, Co. Kerry, or online via Zoom.

What is Abuse?

It is trauma. It includes physical, emotional, social, sexual, domestic and gender-based. It may occur at key life stages, childhood, adolescence or in adulthood.

What does Abuse feel like?

Feeling unsafe, unprotected, unvalued, unworthy, unconfident, isolated, trapped, a secret.

Common Effects of Abuse

Mental, emotional and physical wounds. Having an unhealthy relationship with self and others. Shame and stigma. Syndromes like fibromyalgia frequently have their origin in early childhood abuse.

Why is Counselling or Psychotherapy Needed?

In order to access and release emotions and experiences held in the body in a way that feels safe. You will safely navigate the abuse feelings to find deep healing and empowerment.

Why is it Important to work with Abuse through the Body as well as the Mind?

The trauma of abuse is held in every tissue of the body as well as the mind. Words alone won’t bring healing. You will safely tap into the bodily sensations and feelings of abuse when you are ready to do that. Doing so will move the abuse experience from your body. All that energy held in pain will transform to joy and enlivenment.

Abuse Therapy

My therapy approach is caring and gently supportive. It will help you to meet, accept and process the feelings that go with your abuse experience. It will call on your active self-healing.
