Childhood Issues

Counselling Adults for the impact of their difficult childhood is specialist work that I do. Their ‘inner child’ is met. In my clinic, I see how healing results from exploring childhood issues in a caring and confidential therapeutic space.  I offer Inner Child Counselling in person in Tralee, Co. Kerry, or online via Zoom.

What is Inner Child Pain?

A child who feels threatened in their family or wider holding world will adopt their own way of surviving. This survival style will be physical, emotional, social creative…affecting all aspects of the child’s authentic self- expression. This burden will grow with the child, holding them back in adulthood and preventing them from reaching their potential

Common Childhood Causes of Adult “Inner Child’ Pain

Physical, sexual, or emotional maltreatment, neglect that is perhaps unintended, and any kind of major trauma, including medical.

How do unresolved Childhood Issues feel in the adult?

It feels like ‘I’m unlovable or not good enough’, and generally blocked and small. There may be unexplained illnesses and an inability to regulate emotions or get close to others. Emotional rigidity or impulsivity, and low-esteem with an inability to be imaginatively and creatively free are common.

Counselling Psychotherapy for issues that originated in Childhood

It supports profound healing of the adult’s inner child. Unhealed, they can’t metabolise difficult feelings, process traumatic memories or feel self-compassion. The adult child is often ill and full of shame. The healing pathway is through a loving and nurturing therapeutic relationship that repairs connection and releases the adult to be who they truly are in the world. The child will gently make peace with their adult self.
